Fat loss and weight management involve many independent and interrelated factors that impact at the biochemical, structural and physiological level. Carrying out a simple skin fold test will allow the identification of any specific factors that may preventing you from losing weight and decreasing your body fat content. Using the research of American Performance Coach, Charles Poloquin, we will look at the ways in which you can spot reduce fat from some of those common problem areas, such as the triceps, abdomen and lower body.
Why should I carry out a skin fold test?
The skin fold test is a great way to learn more about your body and gain an understanding of the common barriers to fat loss and how they may be impacting your body’s natural ability to maintain an ideal weight. Following an analysis of your skin fold results we can then look at ways of manipulating your endocrine system to achieve effective fat loss from specific areas using nutritional, supplemental, lifestyle and physical training protocols.
The skin fold test will allow you to:
- Gain more of an understanding of the barriers to fat loss and the contributing factors to weight gain.
- Gain an understanding of the link between endocrinological imbalances and the increase in the deposition of subcutaneous fat in specific areas.
- Learn what type of exercise programme your body will best respond to with regards to fat loss.
- Find out more about any specific dietary recommendations and lifestyle advice you should be following to try to correct any hormone imbalances and promote fat loss
What does the skin fold test involve?
Skin fold testing involves taking 8 site-specific measurements from around the body using a set of calipers. It is a pain free, 30 minute procedure (both males and females are required to wear shorts, and females a bikini top). The results are then taken away to be analysed to identify any specific imbalances and create an exercise and nutritional programme specific to your needs. We will also discuss any lifestyle factors that may help you to decrease your body fat content and specific supplements that may aid fat loss. Regular testing (every 6 weeks is recommended) will allow us to keep track of you progress.
All skin fold tests are carried out in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
